Senate candidate Jason Pizzo in Miami and House candidate Paula Wright in Jacksonville earn Planned Parenthood PAC support in primaries
WEST PALM BEACH – Today, the Florida Planned Parenthood PAC announced endorsements in two Democratic primary races in the Florida Legislature: Jason Pizzo in Senate District 38 and Paula Wright in House District 14.
“Our PAC is committed to holding Florida’s state legislators accountable for their actions and restoring access to the reproductive health care Floridians need,” said Lillian A. Tamayo, Board Member of the PAC. “Jason Pizzo and Paula Wright both got a perfect score on our candidate questionnaire and both are running against incumbents with far less than a perfect record when it comes to standing up for reproductive rights.”
Paula Wright has distinguished herself as chairwoman of the Duval County School Board. She is also a committed health care advocate, especially when it comes to supporting programs to ensure access to health services for children. Jason Pizzo also believes in investing in our kids, has demonstrated a commitment to ethical public service as an Assistant State Attorney and is a champion for LGBTQ equality.
Pizzo and Wright are committed to supporting medically appropriate and scientifically based health care policies, and opposing legislation that puts unnecessary restrictions on women in order to limit access to safe, legal abortion and shut down health centers.
As the threat to Floridians’ abortion rights continues to grow, the importance of electing a governor and legislature that will protect access to reproductive health care is increasingly paramount.
With the threat of an anti-choice, extremist nominee that will tip the balance of the United States Supreme Court not only is Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in jeopardy; the progress we have made on health care, workers’ rights, marriage equality and other personal liberty issues all hang in the balance.
“Jason Pizzo and Paula Wright are the leaders we need now more than ever in Tallahassee,” said Stephanie Fraim-Kight, Board Member of the PAC. “These candidates earned our endorsement and we look forward to working hard on their behalf.”
