Planned Parenthood PAC to lend its considerable grassroots resources and momentum to help propel Gillum to victory in November

SARASOTA – Today, following his win in the Democratic primary, the Florida Planned Parenthood PAC announced it is endorsing Andrew Gillum for governor.

“We know, as governor, Andrew Gillum will be a powerful champion for women’s health and a strong advocate for reproductive freedom,” said Stephanie Fraim, Board Member of the PAC. “There is palpable excitement behind his nomination and we couldn’t be more thrilled to activate our statewide network of women’s health activists to ensure his victory in November.”

“As governor, I will stop the Legislature from using women’s health as a political football,” said Gillum in his candidate questionnaire. “When Governor Rick Scott and Republicans tried to defund Planned Parenthood, I called them out for jeopardizing women’s health with ideological games. I’m proud to be the only candidate in this race to propose a state law protecting women’s access to no-cost contraceptive care.”

Women, men and teens across Florida are more engaged than ever after numerous attacks on their access to health care and reproductive rights. Floridians realize access to safe and legal abortion, FDA approved contraception and medically accurate information from providers hangs in the balance.

Just since 2017, Florida’s Planned Parenthood organizations have added more than 140,000 new supporters, for a total of almost 700,000 supporters across Florida. No anti-abortion legislation has been signed into law in the past two years despite numerous attempts by state lawmakers. This is due to the outpouring of public opposition from events, rallies, lobbying visits, calls to legislators and more.

In addition, thousands of Floridians attended Women’s marches in both 2017 and 2018. In 2017, more than a dozen events were held around the state with 15,000 marchers in the capital.

“I unequivocally trust women to make their own health care decisions with their doctor – not politicians – and I’ll oppose any attempt to make it harder for women to access quality health care,” Gillum added.

The Florida Planned Parenthood PAC strives to create a state environment where access to health care doesn’t depend on who you are or where you live; where every Floridians has the opportunity to choose their own path to a healthy and meaningful life; and, where every person is empowered to make their own decisions about whether and when to have a child.
